Design Software question by Dennis F: What is the right design software for my younger sister?
My younger sister (12 years old) has become quite the digital artist. She does a ton of drawings in a cartoon/anime style, and has even branched into some simple animation. Her work has blown me away, and the most amazing thing is that she is doing it all in MS Paint. I’d love to buy her some better software to work with, but I have no idea where to start. Does anyone have suggestions for accessible and reasonably priced design software oriented towards drawing?

Answer by Corey as an experienced artist, i would recommend Adobe Photoshop. any version would do, seeing as it just needs a selection of brushes and a palette.
however, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a computer program for her, i would just download the GNU image manipulation program.
it is a free program downloaded at gimp.org, aimed toward graphic design and photomanipulation, but with the same basic tools as photoshop. it supports the brushes downloadable in photoshop, which would be the motive of using it rather than ms paint, as with photoshop.
the only differences between the two is that GIMP, being a free program, does not have the organization or quality that photoshop does. however, it is a free alternative, and you might want to have her try that out before you invest the 200+ dollars on adobe photoshop.
